6 Tips to Design Your Perfect Bridal Bouquet

June 7 2016
We’ve already discussed what you should consider before meeting with your florist to discuss your wedding flowers, but now we’re going to turn our attention specifically to the bouquet. Even smaller bouquets are designed to be eye-catching and the centerpiece of your entire look. Many people plan their entire wedding theme around the colors they want to incorporate into their bouquet and your local florist is here to help. Here are a few of the things you should think about while planning for your bouquet:
  • It’s best to pick your dress prior to picking your flowers. You’ll be carrying the bouquet throughout the ceremony and through many of your pictures. If you know what dress you’re wearing, your florist can help you choose a style, size, and color palette that will highlight the lines of your dress.
  • Think seasonal. You’ll want to find out what flowers are in season at the time of your wedding. This will give you an idea of what your florist can easily acquire for you. If your dream bouquet is made up of mostly out-of-season flowers, it will be considerably more expensive or completely unfeasible. Many out-of-season flowers are incredibly expensive or simply not available.
  • Don’t be afraid to branch out. Your wedding bouquet does not have to be white or made up almost entirely of roses. Choose flowers that have personal meaning to you. If you love calla lilies, but don’t want white flowers in your bouquet, they come in several other colors from light pink to burgundy. Flowers come in all shapes and sizes, making it possible for your florist to incorporate your favorites without sacrificing color scheme.
  • Wrap the stems in something you like. If you have any scrap fabric from your dress, use it to create a unified look. You’ll also want to decide if you want the entire stem wrapped or only a portion of it. Also, remember that the wrapping should never take away from the splendor of your dress. Choosing neutral fabric or material or colors that match your wedding theme can really tie your look together.
  • Keep the bouquet proportionate to your size. If you’re petite, think about getting a smaller bouquet. Larger arrangements can dwarf you and take the attention away from you. This is your day, and while we like flowers to be attention-grabbing, they should never be the center of attention at your wedding.
  • Be mindful of where the detail is on your dress. The design of the bouquet should not hide the detail from your guests. Bouquets should complement your look, not distract from it. Certain arrangements will work better for certain dresses. Let your florist know what you’ll be wearing so they can better design the bouquet for you.
