More Questions to Ask Your Wedding Florist

August 3 2016

We can help you make your wedding day spectacular.

In the last blog, we went over the first five questions you want to ask a wedding florist before hiring them. These include asking your florist whether they can work with your budget, whether they have a design portfolio you can see, how many weddings they have done, how many weddings they have scheduled for your weekend, and whether they provide mockups. However, in order to truly choose a florist who can make your dreams come to life for your wedding flowers, these are some more questions you should keep in mind to ask a florist before hiring them.

Will my favorite flowers be in season for the wedding day?

This is one of the more important questions you can ask with regards to the overall design of your wedding. If the flowers you want won’t be in season for the day, your florist may not be able to get them, or they may cost more. If they are not in season, make sure to ask whether you can get them for an extra fee, what that extra fee would be, or any alternatives the florist would suggest. You may find a new favorite flower you never knew about.

Do you help advise on linens or other decorations?

Your wedding florist should have an excellent eye for design and a thorough understanding of what style you want for your wedding. Both of these qualities may help them advise you on linens, chairs, lighting, and tableware, so you can have a beautiful, seamless theme.

How do you charge?

Your wedding florist may give you a quote based on your needs, the size of your venue, etc., but understanding how that quote breaks down will help you if you should need anything extra on or before the day. If one of your guests decides to take home that vase, is it a problem or will you have to pay extra? Do you pay hourly for service, per item, or a flat fee for a set package? Understanding what’s included in the price will save you a headache down the road.

Who handles setup, takedown, and delivery?

Some florists are full-service, meaning they show up to your venue, set up all of your flowers, take them all down following the reception. Typically they will charge extra for this service. On the other side of the spectrum, some florists don’t even deliver, and you’ll need to find someone on the day to go pick up the flowers from the shop. Find out what’s included and how your florists intends to handle the wedding day.

Do you deal directly with the event venue?

One of the biggest headaches a bride suffers is acting as a middleman throughout the wedding process. Guests ask questions, bakers ask questions, venues ask questions, etc. Understand whether or not your florist can deal with the venue as far as restrictions, time to set up, and more so you don’t have to go back and forth between the florist and the venue.
