What To Ask Your Wedding Florist

August 3 2016

You want your wedding day to be perfect.

So do we.

It is important for you to choose vendors who have experience, who understand what it takes to pull off your unique style and requests flawlessly, and who can provide you with a stress-free day so you can enjoy all the special moments it has to offer. That is why it is essential for you to ask your wedding florist the right questions, so you can have flowers that are not only fresh and beautiful, but also bring your wedding vision to life. Our Omaha experts have put together a list of the questions you want to ask your florists before hiring, so you know you have all your bases covered.

How many weddings have you done?

You want to know your florist is experienced, particularly with weddings. There are a lot of high-pressure situations with ceremonies and receptions, especially when you are dealing with live flowers. It’s good to know that your florist has handled events like yours, and will be ready should any obstacle come up on the day.

In addition, it is good to know that your florist will understand what needs to go into your wedding, so nothing, from your table centerpieces to your bridal bouquet to your husband’s grandmother’s corsage, is overlooked.

Can we see a portfolio of your previous work or live samples?

The answer to this question should never be "no.” Any wedding florist you hire should be proud of the work they have done, and present you with some of their best pieces. If your florist shows you their portfolio and you don’t see anything in the style you want, ask them whether or not they have a vision for your specific style. Tell them the kind of wedding you have in mind, and see what they can come up with as far as rough design ideas.

How many weddings are you working the weekend of mine?

If the answer is more than a few, make sure they have the staffing necessary to handle anything that may come up on the day. The last thing you want is for a bouquet to be missing two hours before the ceremony and nobody around to remedy the situation.

Is my budget going to be something you can work with?

The last thing you want is for you or your spouse-to-be to fall in love with a certain arrangement or style and realize it’s way out of your means. Having your florist understand and accept your budget will mean that you can have the wedding flowers you want for a price that won’t break the bank. Most florists will tell you they can work with the budget you provide, but it is important for you to understand just what that means, so don’t be afraid to be specific about your vision.

Do you provide samples for me to approve?

Many wedding florists will provide mockups beforehand for their couples to approve and add suggestions. This may be an additional cost, or may be included with your wedding flower package contingent on a minimum order, so ask your florist upfront what this would entail. If you have seen the florist’s work and are confident in their abilities to produce your vision for your day, this isn’t a priority. However, if you are the kind of person who wants every detail to be perfect, approving an initial design should always be part of your plan.

These are just a handful of the things to keep in mind when choosing a wedding florist. Stay tuned for more questions to ask, or call Janousek to get started with your consultation today!
